Ecosystem Services Projects on the Map

If you are interested in finding out what is happening on ecosystem services in the UK, you can now look up all the projects on an interactive map.

The 'Ecosystem Service Mapping Gateway', has been developed by the  Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (BESS) Directorate, with funding from Natural England.

It brings together information on the growing number of projects concerned with mapping ecosystem service delivery at the landscape level.

Reviewers required for UK National Ecosystem Assessment Follow-on project final reports

In 2011 the UK National Ecosystem Assessment (UK NEA) delivered a wealth of information on the state, value (economic and social) and possible future of terrestrial, freshwater and marine ecosystems across the UK. A Follow-on phase of the UK NEA (UK NEAFO) is underway to address some of the key uncertainties identified by the first phase.

LWEC activity announces Tree Health call for research proposals

A Living with Environmental Change activity has announced a call for research proposals as part of the second phase of the Tree Health and Plant Biosecurity Initiative. The first phase of this initiative supported a number of capacity and consortium-building awards, details of which are at http://randd.defra.gov.uk/.

NERC funding opportunity for the use of environmental data in the development of applications, products and services.

NERC are inviting proposals for short projects that consider the use of information and data in the development of applications, products and services.    This is in advance of a joint NERC/TSB feasibility project call, "Developing new Business Solutions from Environmental Data", which will be launched in the Autumn.

Funding of up to £15K is available to enable researchers to:

Relu's final policy note highlights economic growth in rural areas.

The final policy and practice note in the Relu series examines whether more could be done by policymakers to encourage the economic potential of rural areas.

First conference of CliMathNet

The first conference of CliMathNet, an EPSRC-funded LWEC network that aims to break down barriers between researchers in Mathematics, Statistics and Climate Sciences is due to take place from 1st to 5th July in Exeter.  The network aims to address outstanding problems in climate modelling in ways that are informed by, and that inform, policy making.
