£1.5 Million to meet environment challenges

The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) is building on previous calls (PNPAS and CLASP) for skills and technology to provide solutions to  global challenges. The call for CLASP 2012 will focus on supporting solutions to challenges in the environment domain.

The key aim of this call is to accelerate industrial take-up and operational deployment of key technologies by funding the de-risking (including production of technical demonstrators where appropriate) of technologies and systems applicable to the key environment challenges focused but not limited to the following areas:

·         water security

·         air quality and greenhouse gases

·         smarter systems to reduce pollution and waste

The total funds available for this call will be around £1.5M. It is expected that this will fund a small number of projects ranging from short feasibility studies to larger developmental projects against key milestones which may have funding stage gated. Funding is available to STFC supported groups and other academic partners. Industry engagement with the projects is welcome.

The application is a two stage process with brief Outline proposals required by the 6th of September. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to develop full proposals with assistance and advice from STFC Innovations staff and panel members for a December deadline.

If you would like to find out more and meet suitable project partners please register at http://www.stfc.ac.uk/38988.aspx  for a place at the information day which will be held on the 10th of July at the Royal College of Physicians, 11 St Andrews Place, Regent’s Park, London.
