Department for Transport

DFT

The Department for Transport's aim is transport that works for everyone. This means a transport system which balances the needs of the economy, the environment and society. The Department for Transport provides leadership across the transport sector to achieve its objectives, working with regional, local and private sector partners to deliver many of the services.

Jordan Giddings, Deputy Chief Scientific Adviser at the Department for Transport says ''The Living with Environmental Change partnership enables the Department for Transport to work collectively with other organisations to realise the value of our investments in delivering transport relevant research to meet the challenges of environmental change.

Matthew White, from the Chief Scientific Adviser's Unit, Department for Transport says "The Department for Transport works with Living with Environmental Change to help develop the evidence base needed to deliver the department's objective of sustainable transport, especially reducing transport's carbon footprint. The department is focusing its research programmes on those projects which directly support the development of a green economy and low carbon economic growth, as well as delivering robust information to guide our policy making and international negotiations.

By prioritising spending on sustainable rail projects such as high speed rail and Crossrail and by de-carbonising motoring, we can deliver our vision of a low carbon future. Effective collaboration with
Living with Environmental Change partners, and others, will ensure both the effective use of research budgets and help ensure complementary policy delivery."
