Dr. Andy Parsons is the Manager of the Joint Weather and Climate Research Programme, and a member of the Science Partnerships team.
Current activities
The Joint Weather and Climate Research Programme aims to further the interests of the Met Office and NERC in growing the UK's leading role in weather and climate research.
Andy is responsible to the Strategic Programme Board for the day-to-day running of the programme.
His role includes promoting the programme in the community, supporting the main governing boards and committees, overseeing the MONSooN computing service through chairing the MONSooN Management Committee, and reporting progress to the Met Office Executive and NERC Council.
Career background
Prior to his current role, Andy held a number of positions at NERC, including most recently High Performance Computing manager.
Before moving to NERC in 2003, he had a research career as an ecologist. His research was primarily looking at the impacts of climate change on polar terrestrial communities.
He worked for a decade at Colorado State University at a number of Long-Term Ecological Research sites, including seven seasons in the McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica.
Andy has a degree in Botany from the University of Manchester.
