Bio

Brian Harris is head of strategy for agriculture, food and environment in BBSRC’s Science Group. His role is primarily focused on food security, but he also leads the Council’s input to LWEC. Brian joined BBSRC’s predecessor, the former Agricultural and Food Research Council, in 1989. He has worked in a variety of functions, including science strategy and policy, management of peer review, research institute assessment, studentships and fellowships, and liaison with Government departments.

In recent years, one of Brian’s main responsibilities has been leading the development and implementation of multi-partner funding initiatives, including - under the auspices of LWEC - the Insect Pollinators Initiative and the Tree Health and Plant Biosecurity Initiative. He was a member of the Programme Management Group of the cross-Research Council Rural Economy and Land Use (RELU) Programme from its inception in 2003.
