Susan is a former journalist whose fifteen year BBC career spanned radio, television and local radio management.
She won three national awards for radio documentaries. During a spell as a News Editor, Susan helped the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council devise the first media training course for its scientists in the UK. Since then she has specialised in science communication, founding a climate change website at Oxford University and continuing to provide media training for five research councils, two government departments, ministers, government chief scientific advisers and CEOs.
Susan is now Head of Ensuring Impact and Communication for Living With Environmental Change whilst retaining her non-executive directorship of a business which specialises in climate change strategy.
Following research she carried out at the University of the West of England, Susan is a named author in a book on climate change and her work on climate change champions, behavioural change and adaptive capacity is cited in several recent reports and journal articles. She has been an expert speaker at conferences, workshops and evidence hearings on climate change and helped to develop a climate change card game and website with the New Economics Foundation.
